I am a certified Altruist

Today I received my "Blood Donor" card (as the one on the left) so I am officially recognized as a certified Altruist. This made me smile big and feel proud of myself thinking in how many lives I will be able to salve from now on. Just with a bit of determination and with true love. 

To celebrate it and because is a beautiful sunshine day, I went to have lunch with my partner and then to the local library for a good book in African textiles.

Hoy he recibido mi tarjeta de "Donante de sangre", así que estoy oficialmente reconocida como una altruista. Me ha encantado la noticia y recibir la tarjeta y me siento muy orgullosa de mi misma, al saber que con mi ayuda podré salvar muchas vidas a partir de ahora. Sólo con un poco de determinación y  amor verdadero.

Para celebrarlo y como hace un día precioso, me fui a comer con mi novio y luego a la biblioteca local para obtener un buen libro en textiles africanos.

Loving COLOUR around me

Good morning all,

It is almost two months that it is raining (almost every day) here in UK... To balance that lack of light and colour I am filling my office space with some highlights. I have bought some colour vases in a carboot and I recently place my pencil colours in one of those. 

Also our allotment is producing some Colour and here it a great example of it, love the taste of British Summer :-)

I have also purchase some coloured envelopes as I do hand-writting time-to-time... who will be the next fortunate.....?

Being a Print Designer...I could not live without COLOUR, everything around... inspires me! Moreover, focusing in Interior design market at the moment, there is a Blog I follow and I highly recommend: LA COLORISTA. Isabel is an Interior Design Colour Consultant and her posts are always very inspirational. Thank you Isabel :-)

Hace ya dos meses que está lloviendo (casi todos los días) aquí en el Reino Unido... Para equilibrar la falta de luz y color, estoy llenando mi oficina con algunos toques de luz. He comprado unos vasos de colores en un mercadillo y me he puesto a colocar mis lápices de colores.

Asimismo, nuestro huerto empieza a producir color y éste es un gran ejemplo de ello, me encanta el sabor de verano de Gran Bretaña :-)

También he comprado algunos sobres de colores pues escribo a mano de vez en cuando... quien será el próximo afortunado .....?

Siendo una diseñadora de estampados, no podría vivir sin COLOR, todo a mi alrededor ... me inspira! Y como últimamente estoy centrada en el mercado de diseño de interiores, este es un blog que sigo y recomiendo: La colorista. Isabel es una Consultora de Diseño y Color para Interiores y su blog es siempre muy inspirador. Gracias Isabel :-)

Britain is making it

Yesterday I went to London to join an evening of British collaboration, innovation and fully inspiration at my favorite museum in the capital, the Victoria & Albert Museum.

In celebration of the "British Design 1948-2012" exhibition taking place at the moment in the museum, V&A organised an evening of creative collaboration through lively talks, workshops, irreverence and inspiration.

All events were free and there were quite a lot, distributed in different places of the museum. Some were taking place at the same time so, first, I decided to see the Video Installation "Máthair" by Kathryn Ferguson & Weirdcore. "Máthair", Irish for Mother, is an exploration of the religious and cultural rituals experienced by filmmaker on a holy pilgrimage with her mother.

After I joined, the "Designer Speed Dating", which were talks of 5-10 mins by Anna Lomax, Jason Bruges, Andrew Merritt, Richard Shed and Rolf Knudsen.

After some talks I queue for some time to get in a couple of creative workshops. The first is was "Pants printing with fashion designer David David" who revealed us the technique behind his trademark geometric design style to us, the participants, to create our own piece of art! I really enjoyed :-)

By the end of the evening, I stopped by Bethan Laura Wood (a super crazy astist) and Fabien Capello at "A Passion for Pattern" lunchroom, where I create a mini masterpiece using sticky back plastic. Very Inspiring!

Ayer me fui a Londres para disfrutar de una velada de creación, inspiración e innovación Británica en mi museo favorito de la capital, el Victoria & Albert Museum.

Dada la reciente exposición que se está celebrando estos meses en el museo "Diseño Británico 1948-2012", V & A organizó una tarde de colaboración creativa a través de charlas animadas, talleres, irreverencia e inspiración.

Todos los eventos eran libres y había muchos, distribuidos en diferentes lugares del museo. Algunos se llevaban a cabo al mismo tiempo, así que, en primer lugar, me decidí a ver la vídeo-instalación "Máthair" por Kathryn Ferguson y Weirdcore. "Máthair", en irlandés significa Madre, y es una exploración de los rituales religiosos y culturales experimentados por la cineasta en una santa peregrinación con su madre. Después me incorporé, en el punto de encuentro "Designer Speed ​​Dating", en el que los siguientes diseñadores Anna Lomax, Jason Bruges, Andrew Merritt, Richard Shed y Rolf Knudsen daban charlas de 5-10 minutos bastante interesantes sobre Diseño.

Después de algunas conversaciones me fuí a hacer cola a un par de talleres creativos. El primero se llamaba "crea prendas con el diseñador de moda David David", que nos reveló la técnica detrás de su propia marca de estilo geométrico para que nosotros crearamos nuestra propia prenda! Me gustó mucho :-) (mi diseño está arriba).

Al final de la tarde, pasé por el taller de Bethan Laura Wood (una artista super crazy y muy inspiradora) y Fabien Capello en "Pasión por los patrones" dónde pude crear mi precioso patrón con el uso de pegatinas de plástico. Muy inspirador!

Golden Spider Silk

Last Saturday, together with one of my cousins, I went back to the extraordinary and my favorite museum in London, the Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) - the world´s greatest museum of art and design. The building itself it is a jewel however the art and designs that its rooms contains is full of beauty in any corner. No empty space.

My cousin suggested to go and visit the FREE Golden Spider Silk cape created by Simon Peers and Nicholas Godley. This piece of art is so unique and I never see the natural yellow colour of the spider silk. It appears to be so delicate and at the same time is so strong, one of the fine threats can hold 200gr easily.

The tunic has been elaborated with more than one million female golden orb-weaver spiders collected in the highlands of Madagascar and the embroidery design it is based in the culture area. This unique piece of art, has been made by hand for a group of artists and embroiders working with patience and dedication during three years.

The yellow colour is not die, it is natural made by this type of Madagascar spiders.

El pasado sábado, junto a una de mis primas, fuimos al fántastico y mi museo favorito en Londres, el Victoria & Albert Museum (V&A) - el más grande museo de arte y diseño en el mundo. El edificio en sí mismo es una joya y el arte y diseños que contienen sus estancias lo llenan de una fantástica belleza. No hay ningún vacío.

Mi prima sugerió ir a ver la exposición GRATUITA de la "Golden Spider Silk capa" (Túnica de seda dorada hecha por arañas)creada por Simon Peers and Nicholas Godley. Es tan especial, que es una obra de arte, nunca ví un color amarillo tan natural. Aparentemente las seda parece delicada y fuerte, ya que un fino hilo puede soportar 200gr de peso fácilmente.

La túnica ha sido elaborada con más de un millón de arañas hembras de la familia de Argiopidae, que tejen las telas en forma espiral y que se encuentran en las montañas de Madagascar. El diseño del bordado es típico de la zona. Esta pieza única de arte ha sido creada a mano por un grupo de artistas y bordadores con paciencia y dedicación durante tres años.

El color amarillo es único de esta especie en Madagascar.

A Muse for textile design

Recently I have discovered the work of a great textile and pattern designer. She was so ingenious by the time she started her career in design and still now she continues being on trend. This is fantastic!

She has a distinctive style and her drawings and sketches are so cute and unique. Through her website and some books I have been reviewing later these days, I found myself recharge and ready to take her inspiration as a referee on my next collections of prints and patterns.

Recientemente he descubierto el fantástico trabajo de una gran diseñadora de estampados y telas. Ella era ingeniosa para la época en la que empezó su carrera y aún, en la actualidad, ella sigue siendo tendencia. Es fantástico!

Ella tiene un estilo característico y particular en sus dibujos. A través de su página web y algunos libros que he leído hace poco, me he encontrado a mi misma recargada de creatividad y preparada para utilizar esta inspiración en alguna de mis colecciones de estampados próximas.

Last October I posted a note in Orange colour and now I am happy to confirm that Pantone already choose the colour of the year 2012 being Tangerine Tango 17-1463 TCX. This colour is vibrant and full of notes to combine with.
