It has been an intense December month preparing Christmas and finishing a great design project. The fact that life was going to end by Dec 21st, for me was more an energetic change and entering a new cycle. As all the changes, it takes time to reasure and to establish the new pattern. 

Here we are, now already in 2013, sending best wishes to all family and friends around the world to made ourselves present in their houses and in their hearts.
I feel 2013 is going to bring us good things, however is the attitude that we have towards life what makes us live healthier or not. 

Yesterday I created a 2013 planner, free to print and use, for help people to plan ahead ;-)

Today I found a list of 12 Rules to live by... from the zenhabits blog I follow. Hope these will be inspirational for you too.

Ha sido un intenso mes de Diciembre con la preparación de la Navidad y terminar un gran proyecto de diseño. El hecho de que la vida se iba a terminar el Dec 21, para mí fue más un cambio energético para entrar en un nuevo ciclo. Como todos los cambios, se necesita tiempo para establecer el nuevo patrón.

 

Aquí estamos, ahora ya en el año 2013, enviando los mejores deseos a todos los familiares y amigos en todo el mundo para que nos tengan presentes en sus casas y en sus corazones.

Siento que el 2013 nos va a traer cosas buenas, sin embargo, es la actitud que tenemos frente a la vida lo que nos hace vivir más sano o no. Nuestros pensamientos son los que nos guían hacia cosas buenas u otros destinos.

Stevenage Knitting Company Ltd

I want to share something precious today because tomorrow will be two years since I landed in UK for my second time... 

Just opposite the house we live now, there used to be a great Knitting Company. The factory started in 1926 and it was supplying local shops in North Hertfordshire. Then gradually became a good trader to Lillywhites, Harrods and Mark & Spencer. I think they close down for various reasons last year...such a pity!

In this video, it is explain how they used to work manually and mechanically. A great jump into time and arts & crafts as it used to be. There is also a facebook page with some photos from inside the factory. Love it!

And another data, before the factory, it used to be a day nursery (i just found a photo)! WOW!!

Hoy quiero compartir algo precioso porque mañana hará dos años desde que aterricé en UK por segunda vez...

Justo enfrente de la casa en la que vivimos ahora, solía haber una gran empresa que hacía punto. La fábrica comenzó en 1926 y abastecía las tiendas locales en el Norte de Hertfordshire. Luego, gradualmente se convirtió en un buen comercio y distribuidor para empresas como Lillywhites, Harrods y Mark & ​​Spencer. Creo que cerraron por diversos motivos el año pasado ... una pena!

Returned to the Sea

I started this blog to write about British culture, events, customs, etc...
However, being always inspired cultures, all cultures and specially the Japanese one, it is hard not to mention some of the beauties and artists that this Eastern culture holds.

Heatherwick Studio

After watching the Olympics Opening ceremony 2012 and being stunned by the beauty of the "Collective Torch" called the "Olympic cauldron", I have wondered who was the mind behind such an extraordinary idea.

An here is the person who created this fantastic "Olympic cauldron" that rendered the large-scale pattern on the ground that radiates the copper petals of a flower. Every group of athletes, carried these artifacts or "petals" which were laid out as offerings to come together for the Olympic Cauldron. What a piece of Art with an amazing aesthetics, never seen before.

Después de ver la ceremonia de Apertura de los Juegos Olímpicos 2012 y admirar la belleza de la "Antorcha Colectiva" también llamada el "pebetero olímpico", me preguntaba quién podría ser el cerebro detrás de esta extraordinaria idea.


Así pues, encontré a la persona que ha creado este fantástico "pebetero olímpico", que representa el patrón a gran escala, de los pétalos de una flor de cobre. Cada grupo de atletas, cargó estos artefactos o "pétalos" que fueron establecidos como ofrendas para reunirlos en el Pebetero Olímpico. ¡Qué obra de arte con una estética sorprendente!

Moments of Inspiration

Last Saturday I was in Old Spitafields Market with my sister and we really enjoyed. I like to go there time to time to look at the stalls and the shops around as there are full of inspiration. However, one of the things I miss from the market is "the real spirit of the market" that now turn into a commercial emplacement. First time I came to England in 2001 was a real "street market with stalls here and there". I bet this is kind of evolution, which in this case, killed the real atmosphere of the place.

In fact, the emplacement was a Roman cemetery in AD 300/400. And in 1197 ‘The priory of St. Mary of the Spittle’, a medieval hospital, is founded: the first part of the name ‘Spitalfields’ derives from the word ‘hospital’, which to the medieval mind was understood as ‘hospitality’, a place of rest as well as medicine. Later in 1666 following the Great Fire of London, thousands of displaced people camp on the Spital Fields.

El pasado sábado estuve en el mercado de Spitafileds con mi hermana y nos encantó. Me gusta ir allí cada cierto tiempo para mirar los diferentes puestos y tiendas de los alrededores, ya que están llenos de inspiración. Sin embargo, una de las cosas que echo de menos en el mercado es "el su verdadero espíritu" porque ahora lo han convertido en un emplazamiento comercial. La primera vez que llegué a Inglaterra en 2001 fue un verdadero "mercado de la calle con puestos aquí y allá". Apuesto a que ésto es una evolución, que en este caso, destruyeron la atmósfera real del lugar.

De hecho, el emplazamiento fué un cementerio romano en el año 300/400 AD. Y en 1197 se fundó "El priorato de Santa María de la saliva, un hospital medieval. El nombre de 'Spitalfields' deriva de la palabra 'hospital', que para la mentalidad medieval se entendía como "hospitalidad", un lugar de descanso, así como la medicina. Más tarde, en 1666, tras el gran incendio de Londres, miles de personas desplazadas, montaron un campamento en los campos de Spital.

GUKUUKI Studio and Olympics

This week started with the arrival of my new iMac which I am truly enjoying so far. 

Esta semana empezó genial con la llegada de mi nuevo iMac, qué ilusión!!

My life has change for the better. Since it arrived everything flow easily so I manage to launch my Print Studio online in Facebook, which is having a very good welcome and I promise will be full of colour, prints and inspiration.

Mi vida ha cambiado a mejor. Y desde que ha llegado el trabajo fluye fácilmente, tanto que también he lanzado mi Estudio Gráfico Textil en Facebook, el cual está tenidndo muy buena acogida y prometo que estará lleno de color, estampados e inspiración.

The HUB - a creative space

I have been always attracted to share time with creative people, ideas, dreams, projects, creativity...always looking for that magical place where all these meet and enhance the possibilities of meeting people in the same frame-of-mind.

Siempre me ha gustado compartir tiempo con personas creativas, intercambiando ideas, sueños, projectos, creatividad... siempre en busca de ese lugar mágico dónde todo lo anterior se hiciese realidad.

Last year when I met with Barbara Hulanicki, during our talk about design and creativity, she told me: "Gloria, get a studio!". I felt like a revelation!! During these months I learnt the importance of that sentence, however I am still at the beginning of my adventure journey...

Starting up

If you are in the path of starting up a new business from home (1), the first book I recommend is really helpful and easy to read. Moreover, if you are in the creative field and you don´t know how to sell your crafts locally and online (2), the second book noted here, is for you!

The first one: "How to start a business from home" written by Emma Jones is fresh, innovative and full of good tips and advices to make the business easier and successful. I highly recommend it!

El primer libro: "How to start a business from home" ("Como empezar un negocio desde casa") está escrito por Emma Jones y es fresco, innovador y lleno de buenos datos y consejos para hacer que tu negocio funcione de la manera más fácil. Britain is making it

Yesterday I went to London to join an evening of British collaboration, innovation and fully inspiration at my favorite museum in the capital, the Victoria & Albert Museum.

In celebration of the "British Design 1948-2012" exhibition taking place at the moment in the museum, V&A organised an evening of creative collaboration through lively talks, workshops, irreverence and inspiration.

All events were free and there were quite a lot, distributed in different places of the museum. Some were taking place at the same time so, first, I decided to see the Video Installation "Máthair" by Kathryn Ferguson & Weirdcore. "Máthair", Irish for Mother, is an exploration of the religious and cultural rituals experienced by filmmaker on a holy pilgrimage with her mother.

After I joined, the "Designer Speed Dating", which were talks of 5-10 mins by Anna Lomax, Jason Bruges, Andrew Merritt, Richard Shed and Rolf Knudsen.

After some talks I queue for some time to get in a couple of creative workshops. The first is was "Pants printing with fashion designer David David" who revealed us the technique behind his trademark geometric design style to us, the participants, to create our own piece of art! I really enjoyed :-)

By the end of the evening, I stopped by Bethan Laura Wood (a super crazy astist) and Fabien Capello at "A Passion for Pattern" lunchroom, where I create a mini masterpiece using sticky back plastic. Very Inspiring!

Ayer me fui a Londres para disfrutar de una velada de creación, inspiración e innovación Británica en mi museo favorito de la capital, el Victoria & Albert Museum.

Dada la reciente exposición que se está celebrando estos meses en el museo "Diseño Británico 1948-2012", V & A organizó una tarde de colaboración creativa a través de charlas animadas, talleres, irreverencia e inspiración.

Todos los eventos eran libres y había muchos, distribuidos en diferentes lugares del museo. Algunos se llevaban a cabo al mismo tiempo, así que, en primer lugar, me decidí a ver la vídeo-instalación "Máthair" por Kathryn Ferguson y Weirdcore. "Máthair", en irlandés significa Madre, y es una exploración de los rituales religiosos y culturales experimentados por la cineasta en una santa peregrinación con su madre. Después me incorporé, en el punto de encuentro "Designer Speed ​​Dating", en el que los siguientes diseñadores Anna Lomax, Jason Bruges, Andrew Merritt, Richard Shed y Rolf Knudsen daban charlas de 5-10 minutos bastante interesantes sobre Diseño.

Después de algunas conversaciones me fuí a hacer cola a un par de talleres creativos. El primero se llamaba "crea prendas con el diseñador de moda David David", que nos reveló la técnica detrás de su propia marca de estilo geométrico para que nosotros crearamos nuestra propia prenda! Me gustó mucho :-) (mi diseño está arriba).

Al final de la tarde, pasé por el taller de Bethan Laura Wood (una artista super crazy y muy inspiradora) y Fabien Capello en "Pasión por los patrones" dónde pude crear mi precioso patrón con el uso de pegatinas de plástico. Muy inspirador!

As a designer I think that street art plays a big interest on my creativity, I like to see around and find little treasures on my walks or travels. I always like BANKSY and his way of putting out things and facts.

Siendo diseñadora, el arte callejero juega un gran interés en mi creatividad, me gusta mirar a mi alrededor y encontrar pequeños tesoros en mis paseos o viajes. Siempre me ha gustado el artista BANKSY y su manera de ver la vida.

However lately, I have been hear of an artist called OLEK which is using the craft art of crocheting as a way of expressing herself and how stunning work I should say. In the video which I share, you can see some of her most relevant works, along with another artist called SWOON which is a new name for me. She uses her own drawings as a graffiti to manifests along streets and also a new concept to sculpture to approach new directions on Art.

Sin embargo, hace unos meses descubrí una artista llamada OLEK la cual usa el arte del crochet como modo de expresarse ella misma, y tiene una obra maravillosa. En el video que comparto, podéis ver algunos de sus trabajos más importantes, junto con otra artista nueva para mí, llamada SWOON. Ella usa sus propios dibujos a forma de graffitis para expresarse y también un nuevo concepto de escultura que llena nuevas direcciones en Arte.

Yesterday, on my way back home from the seminar in Business I recently registered, I could not avoid in jumping into a charity shop and see if they have any crochet needle, which they had....and I purchase three beauties for the total of 75pence! Plus a crochet cotton ball (Orange, of course) for 1 pound!! Really a bargain! I am so happy!!

I started thinking in crochet because one of my friends, Celia, who has a beautiful and very interesting blog, inspires me in many ways. She is a great accessories designer but also a great crafts artist. I love her work and I follow her lovely blog every day! Ayer, a la vuelta de mi seminario en Negocios que recientemente me he apuntado, pasé por una de las "Charity Shops" (segunda mano) que hay cerca de casa y pregunté si tenían alguna aguja de crochet y tenían... al final me compré 3 por 75 pences y un algodón en color naranja, por supuesto! por 1 libra! Una ganga!! estoy super feliz!!
