* 2 0 1 3 * Here we are

It has been an intense December month preparing Christmas and finishing a great design project. The fact that life was going to end by Dec 21st, for me was more an energetic change and entering a new cycle. As all the changes, it takes time to reasure and to establish the new pattern. 

Here we are, now already in 2013, sending best wishes to all family and friends around the world to made ourselves present in their houses and in their hearts.
I feel 2013 is going to bring us good things, however is the attitude that we have towards life what makes us live healthier or not. 

Yesterday I created a 2013 planner, free to print and use, for help people to plan ahead ;-)

Today I found a list of 12 Rules to live by... from the zenhabits blog I follow. Hope these will be inspirational for you too.

Ha sido un intenso mes de Diciembre con la preparación de la Navidad y terminar un gran proyecto de diseño. El hecho de que la vida se iba a terminar el Dec 21, para mí fue más un cambio energético para entrar en un nuevo ciclo. Como todos los cambios, se necesita tiempo para establecer el nuevo patrón.

 

Aquí estamos, ahora ya en el año 2013, enviando los mejores deseos a todos los familiares y amigos en todo el mundo para que nos tengan presentes en sus casas y en sus corazones.

Siento que el 2013 nos va a traer cosas buenas, sin embargo, es la actitud que tenemos frente a la vida lo que nos hace vivir más sano o no. Nuestros pensamientos son los que nos guían hacia cosas buenas u otros destinos.



Ayer creé un 2013 Planning, para imprimir y usar.

The Big Chair project

First time I landed in UK I fall in love of the chef Jamie Oliver´s food program and his charismatic personality. I also read his autobiography and follow his moves ever since.

This time he is behind The BIG Chair Project which is the brainchild of The Better Food Foundation, the charity founded by himself. Back in 2002, Jamie established a unique and pioneering restaurant group called Fifteen, that uses the magic of food to give young people a chance to have a better future. Ten years on, hundreds of apprentices have graduated from the programme, which trains unemployed youngsters to become professional chefs. With 2012 marking the 10th anniversary, it was time to do something a little celebratory to raise much-needed funds for the next 10 years.

La primera vez que aterricé en el Reino Unido me enamoré del programa de comida del chef Jamie Oliver y su personalidad carismática. También leí su autobiografía y sigo sus movimientos desde entonces.

 








Esta vez está detrás del proyecto La Silla Grande que es la Fundación Better Food, y la organización benéfica fundada por él mismo. En 2002, Jamie estableció un grupo de restaurante único y pionero llamado Fifteen, que utiliza la magia de los alimentos para dar a los jóvenes la oportunidad de tener un futuro mejor. Diez años después, cientos de aprendices se han graduado del programa, que forma a jóvenes desempleados para convertirse en chefs profesionales. Con 2012 marca el 10º aniversario, y era hora de hacer algo un poco festivo para recaudar los fondos tan necesarios para los próximos 10 años.

Returned to the Sea

I started this blog to write about British culture, events, customs, etc...
However, being always inspired cultures, all cultures and specially the Japanese one, it is hard not to mention some of the beauties and artists that this Eastern culture holds.

Today, a sample of beauty, art and tradition, reunite in the art work of Motoi Yamamoto.

Empecé este blog para escribir sobre la cultura Británica, los acontecimientos, las costumbres, etc ...
Sin embargo, siempre me han inspirado las culturas, todas las culturas, y especialmente la Japonesa, asi que es difícil no hablar de algunas de las bellezas y artistas que esta cultura oriental posee.

A feast of Colour

Some weeks ago Bernay Laity, a colour consultant, write to me because she found my work and she wanted to feature it in the Home Heart magazine. And today "A feast of Colour" has been published :-) I am so happy! And I believe that this event will help to promote Gukuuki and find good work opportunities.

Hace algunas semanas Bernay Laity, una consultora de color, me escribió porque encontró mi trabajo y quería escribir sobre ello en la revista de Home Heart magazine. Y hoy, "Una fiesta de color" ha sido publicado :-) Estoy muy feliz! Y creo que este evento ayudará a promover Gukuuki y encontrar buenas oportunidades de trabajo.

Heatherwick Studio

After watching the Olympics Opening ceremony 2012 and being stunned by the beauty of the "Collective Torch" called the "Olympic cauldron", I have wondered who was the mind behind such an extraordinary idea.

An here is the person who created this fantastic "Olympic cauldron" that rendered the large-scale pattern on the ground that radiates the copper petals of a flower. Every group of athletes, carried these artifacts or "petals" which were laid out as offerings to come together for the Olympic Cauldron. What a piece of Art with an amazing aesthetics, never seen before.

Después de ver la ceremonia de Apertura de los Juegos Olímpicos 2012 y admirar la belleza de la "Antorcha Colectiva" también llamada el "pebetero olímpico", me preguntaba quién podría ser el cerebro detrás de esta extraordinaria idea.


Así pues, encontré a la persona que ha creado este fantástico "pebetero olímpico", que representa el patrón a gran escala, de los pétalos de una flor de cobre. Cada grupo de atletas, cargó estos artefactos o "pétalos" que fueron establecidos como ofrendas para reunirlos en el Pebetero Olímpico. ¡Qué obra de arte con una estética sorprendente!

Learning to See

Learning to See as Inge Druckrey teaches us in this 38-minute video is one of the most extraordinary gifts a Designer (specially Graphic Designer) can have, with the contrast Black and White, the evolution of a typography or the simplicity of an image. Inge Druckrey: Teaching to See remarks on the benefits of an education in art and design. 

This video applies to Graphic Designers however, in my experience as a Graphic Print Designer and Photographer, "Learning to See" is a great lesson that can be applied for an observant mind without closing boundaries of any type.

Aprendiendo a Ver como Inge Druckrey nos enseña en este video de 38 minutos (en inglés) es uno de los regalos más extraordinarios que un Diseñador (especialmente Diseñador Gráfico) puede tener, con la diferencia del Blanco y Negro, la evolución de la tipografía o la simplicidad de una imagen. Inge Druckrey: Enseñar a Ver, remarca las observaciones sobre los beneficios de una educación en arte y diseño.  

Este video se aplica a los Diseñadores Gráficos sin embargo, en mi experiencia como Diseñadora Gráfico-Textil y Fotógrafa, "Aprender a ver" es una gran lección que se puede aplicar para una mente perspicaz, sin cerrar las fronteras de ningún tipo.

Olympics 2012 London Ceremony

I am not English but I felt proud of the British for such and impressive £27m opening ceremony last Friday evening. The colours, the music, the drummers, the British humor, the scenography and the sculpture of the Olympic flame it made me feel so engage with this country. Also thanks to all the volunteer people who made this possible and the managers and producers behinds the scenes.

No soy Inglesa, pero me sentí orgullosa de los Británicos por la impresionante ceremonia de apertura de 27m de libras la noche del pasado viernes. Los colores, la música, tamborileros, el humor británico, la escenografía y la escultura de la llama olímpica que me hizo sentir tan comprometida con este país. Gracias también a todas las personas voluntarias que hicieron esto posible y los directivos y productores detrás de las escenas.

However, do you really know what is the meaning behind the five Olympic rings?

The emblem of the Olympic Games is composed of five interlocking rings (blue, yellow, black, green, and red respectively) on a white field. This was originally designed in 1913 by Baron Pierred de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games. These five rings stand for passion, faith, victory, work ethic and sportsmanship.

Sin embargo, ¿Sabes realmente saben el significado detrás delos cinco anillos olímpicos?

El emblema de los Juegos Olímpicos está compuesto por cinco aros entrelazados (azul, amarillo, negro, verde y rojo, respectivamente) sobre un campo blanco. Este símbolo fué diseñado originalmente en 1913 por el Barón de Coubertin Pierred, el fundador de los Juegos Olímpicos modernos. Estoscinco anillos representan la pasión, la fe, la victoria ética de trabajo, y el espíritu deportivo.

The ceremony came at the end of a day that saw the Olympic torch complete its 70-day odyssey around the British Isles.

Bells also rang out across the UK to celebrate the imminent start of the Games. The Prime Minister said the country would show the world “the best of Britain” while Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) added: “London is ready.”

Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins opened the London 2012 Olympic games by ringing the largest harmonically tuned bell in the world. 

Bradley Wiggins, ganador del Tour de Francia, abrió los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012 haciendo sonar la campana más grande armónicamente sintonizada en el mundo.

A digital 10-second countdown flashed on to the crowd, with balloons popping on each number, and the ceremony began. The five Olympic rings were released and floated up into the sky.

Una cuenta atrás digital de 10 segundos se encendió en la multitud, con globos que se hicieron estallar en cada número, y comenzó la ceremonia. Los cinco anillos olímpicos flotaron en el cielo.

The London Symphony Orchestra played a tribute to the British film industry with a performance of the Chariots of Fire theme, the 1981 Oscar-winning film based on the Olympic story of British athletes Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, which also featured a guest appearance from North East-born comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson.

A two-up two-down house was the start of the ceremony’s love story featuring Frankie and June, a teenage girl getting ready for a Saturday night out. A lost phone led to their budding romance, which was pursued through nightclubs across the decades.

Some of Britain’s best-loved songs, from Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody to Underworld’s Born Slippy and Tinie Tempah’s Pass Out, encapsulate each era. All partygoers were invited back to the house where Tim Berners-Lee, the Briton who invented the World Wide Web, was at his keyboard.

The Material Lab

One day my cousin Yolanda took me into the magical world of Material Lab, where I go time to time as a place for inspiration. 

It has become an established design resource studio in London where people can explore and be inspired by a huge range of materials, such as ceramics, glass, wallpaper, wood, carpet tiles, eco-resins and fabrics.

On top of that, they have an entire shelf full of Interior Design magazine and Trend Books mainly for Home Design, although it is an inspirational place in many ways.

They have an area in the studio to sit and check the different material. As well as a serie of tile shelves with awesome finishes and particular textures.

The staff is also very helpful, kind and welcome to answer any queries or help you.

It is a MUST stop for designers any kind and specially for those working in Interior Design.

They have also a BLOG which encomprises several areas.

Un día mi prima Yolanda me llevó al mágico mundo Material Lab dónde voy cada cierto tiempo a inspirarme.

Este lugar se ha convertido en un estudio de diseño de recursos, donde las personas pueden explorar e inspirarse gracias a una gran variedad de materiales, como cerámica, vidrio, papel pintado, madera, baldosas de moqueta, eco-resinas y tejidos.

Además de eso, tienen toda una estanteria llena de revistas sobre Diseño de Interiores, y libros de tendencias, es un lugar de inspiración de muchas maneras.

Tienen una zona para sentarse y ver los diferentes materiales. Como también una serie de estanterías de baldosas con acabados impresionantes y particulares texturas.

El personal es muy servicial, amable y abierto a responder cualquier pregunta o ayudarte.

Es una parada obligatoria para diseñadores y en especial para Áquellos que trabajan en Diseño de Interiores.

También tienen un BLOG que destaca varias áreas.
