Sandwich celebrated 250th anniversary!

The city of Sandwich, in Kent, celebrated its 250th anniversary this past weekend. Some people would like to know more about the story behind this famous word "Sandwich".

John Montagu, 4th Earl of Sandwich, (13 November 1718 – 30 April 1792 was a British statesman who succeeded his grandfather, Edward Montagu, 3rd Earl of Sandwich, as the Earl of Sandwich in 1729, at the age of ten. During his life he held various military and political offices, including Postmaster General, First Lord of the Admiralty and Secretary of State for the Northern Department, but is perhaps best known for the claim that he was the eponymous inventor of the sandwich.

When John Montagu, the fourth Earl of Sandwich, ordered beef served between slices of bread about 250 years ago he probably did not think his request would become a global convenience meal.
The story goes that the Earl asked for the particular serving so that he could eat while continuing to play cards and his friends asked "to have the same as Sandwich", according to the British Sandwich Association.

The first written record of the sandwich was in 1762 and the Kent town of Sandwich, which is the earldom of the Montagu family, is celebrating the 250th anniversary of the meal.

In this occassion, John Montagu said: "I am delighted to wish a happy 250th birthday to the sandwich. "My ancestor, the 4th Earl, could never have imagined that his simple invention would spawn a multi-billion dollar industry, employing hundreds of thousands of people in this country."

Happy 250th anniversary Sandwich!!

Feliz 250 aniversario Sandwich!!

The HUB - a creative space

Image from the HUB in Kings Cross, London.
I have been always attracted to share time with creative people, ideas, dreams, projects, creativity...always looking for that magical place where all these meet and enhance the possibilities of meeting people in the same frame-of-mind.

Last year when I met with Barbara Hulanicki, during our talk about design and creativity, she told me: "Gloria, get a studio!". I felt like a revelation!! During these months I learnt the importance of that sentence, however I am still at the beginning of my adventure journey...

Today, it meant to be for me to receive an offer from the HUB in Kings Cross (London) - a creativity co-working space for entrepreneurs.
