GUKUUKI Studio and Olympics

This week started with the arrival of my new iMac which I am truly enjoying so far. 

Esta semana empezó genial con la llegada de mi nuevo iMac, qué ilusión!!

My life has change for the better. Since it arrived everything flow easily so I manage to launch my Print Studio online in Facebook, which is having a very good welcome and I promise will be full of colour, prints and inspiration.

Mi vida ha cambiado a mejor. Y desde que ha llegado el trabajo fluye fácilmente, tanto que también he lanzado mi Estudio Gráfico Textil en Facebook, el cual está tenidndo muy buena acogida y prometo que estará lleno de color, estampados e inspiración.

Olympics 2012 London Ceremony

I am not English but I felt proud of the British for such and impressive £27m opening ceremony last Friday evening. The colours, the music, the drummers, the British humor, the scenography and the sculpture of the Olympic flame it made me feel so engage with this country. Also thanks to all the volunteer people who made this possible and the managers and producers behinds the scenes.

No soy Inglesa, pero me sentí orgullosa de los Británicos por la impresionante ceremonia de apertura de 27m de libras la noche del pasado viernes. Los colores, la música, tamborileros, el humor británico, la escenografía y la escultura de la llama olímpica que me hizo sentir tan comprometida con este país. Gracias también a todas las personas voluntarias que hicieron esto posible y los directivos y productores detrás de las escenas.

However, do you really know what is the meaning behind the five Olympic rings?

The emblem of the Olympic Games is composed of five interlocking rings (blue, yellow, black, green, and red respectively) on a white field. This was originally designed in 1913 by Baron Pierred de Coubertin, the founder of the modern Olympic Games. These five rings stand for passion, faith, victory, work ethic and sportsmanship.

Sin embargo, ¿Sabes realmente saben el significado detrás delos cinco anillos olímpicos?

El emblema de los Juegos Olímpicos está compuesto por cinco aros entrelazados (azul, amarillo, negro, verde y rojo, respectivamente) sobre un campo blanco. Este símbolo fué diseñado originalmente en 1913 por el Barón de Coubertin Pierred, el fundador de los Juegos Olímpicos modernos. Estoscinco anillos representan la pasión, la fe, la victoria ética de trabajo, y el espíritu deportivo.

The ceremony came at the end of a day that saw the Olympic torch complete its 70-day odyssey around the British Isles.

La ceremonia tuvo lugar al final de un día en que vió la antorcha olímpica completar su odisea de 70 días alrededor de las Islas Británicas. 

Bells also rang out across the UK to celebrate the imminent start of the Games. The Prime Minister said the country would show the world “the best of Britain” while Jacques Rogge, president of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) added: “London is ready.”

Las campanas también sonaron en el Reino Unido para celebrar el inminente inicio de los Juegos. El Primer Ministro dijo que el país quería mostrar al mundo "lo mejor de Gran Bretaña", mientras que Jacques Rogge, presidente del Comité Olímpico Internacional (COI) agregó: "Londres está listo".

Tour de France winner Bradley Wiggins opened the London 2012 Olympic games by ringing the largest harmonically tuned bell in the world. 

Bradley Wiggins, ganador del Tour de Francia, abrió los Juegos Olímpicos de Londres 2012 haciendo sonar la campana más grande armónicamente sintonizada en el mundo.

A digital 10-second countdown flashed on to the crowd, with balloons popping on each number, and the ceremony began. The five Olympic rings were released and floated up into the sky.

Una cuenta atrás digital de 10 segundos se encendió en la multitud, con globos que se hicieron estallar en cada número, y comenzó la ceremonia. Los cinco anillos olímpicos flotaron en el cielo.

Then the familiar sound of the James Bond theme blasted out, while bright lights turned the banks of spectators in to panels of red, white and blue. Watch video

The London Symphony Orchestra played a tribute to the British film industry with a performance of the Chariots of Fire theme, the 1981 Oscar-winning film based on the Olympic story of British athletes Eric Liddell and Harold Abrahams, which also featured a guest appearance from North East-born comedian and actor Rowan Atkinson.

Some of Britain’s best-loved songs, from Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody to Underworld’s Born Slippy and Tinie Tempah’s Pass Out, encapsulate each era. All partygoers were invited back to the house where Tim Berners-Lee, the Briton who invented the World Wide Web, was at his keyboard.

The Material Lab

One day my cousin Yolanda took me into the magical world of Material Lab, where I go time to time as a place for inspiration. 

It has become an established design resource studio in London where people can explore and be inspired by a huge range of materials, such as ceramics, glass, wallpaper, wood, carpet tiles, eco-resins and fabrics.

On top of that, they have an entire shelf full of Interior Design magazine and Trend Books mainly for Home Design, although it is an inspirational place in many ways.

They have an area in the studio to sit and check the different material. As well as a serie of tile shelves with awesome finishes and particular textures.

The staff is also very helpful, kind and welcome to answer any queries or help you.

It is a MUST stop for designers any kind and specially for those working in Interior Design.

They have also a BLOG which encomprises several areas.

Un día mi prima Yolanda me llevó al mágico mundo Material Lab dónde voy cada cierto tiempo a inspirarme.

Este lugar se ha convertido en un estudio de diseño de recursos, donde las personas pueden explorar e inspirarse gracias a una gran variedad de materiales, como cerámica, vidrio, papel pintado, madera, baldosas de moqueta, eco-resinas y tejidos.

Además de eso, tienen toda una estanteria llena de revistas sobre Diseño de Interiores, y libros de tendencias, es un lugar de inspiración de muchas maneras.

Tienen una zona para sentarse y ver los diferentes materiales. Como también una serie de estanterías de baldosas con acabados impresionantes y particulares texturas.

El personal es muy servicial, amable y abierto a responder cualquier pregunta o ayudarte.

Es una parada obligatoria para diseñadores y en especial para Áquellos que trabajan en Diseño de Interiores.

También tienen un BLOG que destaca varias áreas.

Olympic Flame 2012

Today is a lucky day for us because the Olympic flame is travelling from Cambridge to Luton, passing by Stevenage :-) and it passed by our street at 12.01pm. I have never imagined that an opportunity like that could happen just off by our door! 

When you live in a small town you have the opportunity to such things and enjoy with the crowd. I took some photos. Decoration is so colourful and the preparation was smooth. 

This morning I cook a big brownie to honor this moment and also to share with our neighbours as we are all making a street party celebration. I love parties!

The Olympic Flame is a symbol of the Olympic Games.^[1] Commemorating the theft of fire from the Greek god Zeus by Prometheus, its origins lie in ancient Greece, where a fire was kept burning throughout the celebration of the ancient Olympics. The fire was reintroduced at the 1928 Summer Olympics in Amsterdam, and it has been part of the modern Olympic Games ever since.

Olympic Torch Designs

Hoy no es un día cualquiera, porque hoy la llama olímpica viajará desde Cambridge a Luton, pasando por Stevenage :-) y por nuestra calle, a las 12.01 del mediodía. Nunca me hubiera imaginado que una oportunidad como la de hoy pudiera pasar por nuestra puerta!

Cuando uno vive en un pueblo pequeño tiene la oportunidad de disfrutar de esas cosas. Voy a hacer algunas fotos y subir más tarde. La decoración es tan colorido.
Esta mañana cociné un brownie grande para honrar este momento y también para compartir con nuestros vecinos ya que todos estamos haciendo una celebración en la calle. Me encantan las fiestas!

La Llama Olímpica es un símbolo de los Juegos Olímpicos. En conmemoración del robo del fuego del Dios griego Zeus a Prometeo, y sus orígenes se encuentran en la antigua Grecia, dónde se mantuvo encendida durante la celebración de las antigüas Olimpiadas. La llama fue reintroducida en el año 1928 en los Juegos Olímpicos de Amsterdam y ha sido parte de los Juegos Olímpicos modernos desde entonces.

Loving COLOUR around me

Good morning all,

It is almost two months that it is raining (almost every day) here in UK... To balance that lack of light and colour I am filling my office space with some highlights. I have bought some colour vases in a carboot and I recently place my pencil colours in one of those. 

Also our allotment is producing some Colour and here it a great example of it, love the taste of British Summer :-)

I have also purchase some coloured envelopes as I do hand-writting time-to-time... who will be the next fortunate.....?

Being a Print Designer...I could not live without COLOUR, everything around... inspires me! Moreover, focusing in Interior design market at the moment, there is a Blog I follow and I highly recommend: LA COLORISTA. Isabel is an Interior Design Colour Consultant and her posts are always very inspirational. Thank you Isabel :-)

As I do love COLOUR, I do love PANTONE and now, we can also follow it in Facebook, isn´t a great idea? PantoneColor also the Pantone Blog http://blog.pantone.com/

Hace ya dos meses que está lloviendo (casi todos los días) aquí en el Reino Unido... Para equilibrar la falta de luz y color, estoy llenando mi oficina con algunos toques de luz. He comprado unos vasos de colores en un mercadillo y me he puesto a colocar mis lápices de colores.

Asimismo, nuestro huerto empieza a producir color y éste es un gran ejemplo de ello, me encanta el sabor de verano de Gran Bretaña :-)

También he comprado algunos sobres de colores pues escribo a mano de vez en cuando... quien será el próximo afortunado .....?

Siendo una diseñadora de estampados, no podría vivir sin COLOR, todo a mi alrededor ... me inspira! Y como últimamente estoy centrada en el mercado de diseño de interiores, este es un blog que sigo y recomiendo: La colorista. Isabel es una Consultora de Diseño y Color para Interiores y su blog es siempre muy inspirador. Gracias Isabel :-)

Inky Blues Key Trend

Tricia Guild is one of my favorite designers and she says: 

"BLUE continue to be a key trend, from cobalt and indigo to inky shades of blue-black, acqua and celadon,. It is a fresh, vital shade that it is evocative of nature".

I have created this new trend mood from what she said to show how these blues can be combined between them and also with some other colours as Sand, Fucshia, Green, Lilac, Teal, White, Lime... as a source of inspiration.
