Stevenage Knitting Company Ltd

I want to share something precious today because tomorrow will be two years since I landed in UK for my second time... 

Just opposite the house we live now, there used to be a great Knitting Company. The factory started in 1926 and it was supplying local shops in North Hertfordshire. Then gradually became a good trader to Lillywhites, Harrods and Mark & Spencer. I think they close down for various reasons last year...such a pity!

In this video, it is explain how they used to work manually and mechanically. A great jump into time and arts & crafts as it used to be. There is also a facebook page with some photos from inside the factory. Love it!

And another data, before the factory, it used to be a day nursery (i just found a photo)! WOW!!

Hoy quiero compartir algo precioso porque mañana hará dos años desde que aterricé en UK por segunda vez...

Justo enfrente de la casa en la que vivimos ahora, solía haber una gran empresa que hacía punto. La fábrica comenzó en 1926 y abastecía las tiendas locales en el Norte de Hertfordshire. Luego, gradualmente se convirtió en un buen comercio y distribuidor para empresas como Lillywhites, Harrods y Mark & ​​Spencer. Creo que cerraron por diversos motivos el año pasado ... una pena!

 

En este vídeo (en inglés), se explica la forma en la que se solía trabajar de forma manual y mecánica. Un gran salto en el tiempo y en la forma artesanal, como solía ser. También hay una página de facebook con algunas fotos del interior de la fábrica. ¡Me encanta!

 

Y otro dato, antes de la fábrica, había una guardería (acabo de encontrar una foto - en el medio). WOW!

The HUB - a creative space

I have been always attracted to share time with creative people, ideas, dreams, projects, creativity...always looking for that magical place where all these meet and enhance the possibilities of meeting people in the same frame-of-mind.

Siempre me ha gustado compartir tiempo con personas creativas, intercambiando ideas, sueños, projectos, creatividad... siempre en busca de ese lugar mágico dónde todo lo anterior se hiciese realidad.

Last year when I met with Barbara Hulanicki, during our talk about design and creativity, she told me: "Gloria, get a studio!". I felt like a revelation!! During these months I learnt the importance of that sentence, however I am still at the beginning of my adventure journey...

El año pasado cuando conocí a Barbara Hulanicki, durante nuestra charla sobre el diseño y la creatividad, me dijo: "Gloria, encuentra un estudio!" Fué como una revelación para mí. Durante estos meses he aprendido la importancia de esa frase, sin embargo, aún estoy al comienzo de mi aventura..

Starting up

If you are in the path of starting up a new business from home (1), the first book I recommend is really helpful and easy to read. Moreover, if you are in the creative field and you don´t know how to sell your crafts locally and online (2), the second book noted here, is for you!

The first one: "How to start a business from home" written by Emma Jones is fresh, innovative and full of good tips and advices to make the business easier and successful. I highly recommend it!
